6 Weeks old

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a moment and tell everyone in writing how we are all doing. Pidgie is 6 weeks old today. She is doing great. Two nights ago she slept for 6 hours in between feedings, of course last night she went back to the three hour schedule but it was encouraging to see her making the effort to sleep through the night. She is alert a little more each day and is gaining the baby weight that most babies have. She was diagnosed with acid reflux a little over a week ago. Babies, especially preemies, develop acid relux when the muscle controlling the opening of the stomach is immature and allows acid into the esophogus. Many babies who have acid reflux (or GER as the call it when it is with a baby) are misdiagnosed as being colicky and therefore suffer needlessly (both the baby and the parents). Pidgie has a medicine that she takes every 12 hours. It tastes awful, and usually breaks my heart when she makes the "I can't believe you just did that to me" look, but I know that it is helping. Now along with the medicine we have to keep her upright after every feeding for at least 30 minutes to allow the digestion to take place before any pressure is placed on her stomach muscles. That creates less down time in which I am able to other things especially during the day when she eats more frequently, but I am enjoying the constant connection with her.

I have 5 weeks left of maternity leave and I thought that I would be getting stir crazy by now, but it is amazing how much I am enjoying being a mom. I do miss the movies. I hear news stories about how the Dark Knight broke every record imaginable and I wish I could have been a part of it, but then I think about how over the weekend Cambria looked at me and smiled, and I am glad I didn't miss it.

We went to our friend Megan's apartment over the weekend. Here is a picture of Adam and Cambria with Dave and Ashley. They are 15 days apart in age. We thought this picture was adorable as the boys were watching the Rockies game, the girls struck a pose.

How cute. Both dads and daughters are making the same face and poses. It is amazing how much your previous life takes a back-seat to your new life... and how easy it is to make those sacrifices. You are a great mom... enjoy these moments with her. Thanks for sharing. Amy
